“The
Steward of the Stewards”
The
mission of AFSCME Local 3336 is to act as the “stewards of
DEQ’s stewards” of the environment. This stewardship
includes advocating for working conditions, pay and benefits;
supporting political activity that promotes pro-environment
and pro-labor positions; building stronger labor coalitions
that further the rights of all workers; and targeting Union
resources to critical issues identified by the membership.

Advocating for working conditions, pay, and benefits so
workers can focus on their environmental work.
This advocacy includes: |
- Contract negotiations
- Labor/Management Meetings
- Dispute Resolution
- Grievances
- Direct action/rallies
- Protecting
professionalism in the workplace
| Being
politically active at all levels. This political
activity is to support positions that are
pro-environment and pro-labor and includes: |
- Participation in labor
organization political action committees (e.g., Council 75
PAC, direct actions such as JwJ, CBLOC, Alliance for
Sustainable Jobs, etc.)
- Education
about/involvement in ballot measures
- Education
about/involvement in electoral politics at the local,
regional, state, and federal levels
- Contributing time, money,
and effort to causes identified and supported by members

Building stronger labor coalitions to further the rights
of all workers. A stronger labor organization is a
more effective one; strength can be gained by: |
- Increasing Local
membership to 75% or greater
- Recruit and train
stewards and leaders
- Improve internal
communication
- Forming coalitions with
other Locals, Council 75, Regional Labor Organizations, JwJ,
etc.

Targeting other issues where Union resources will be
directed. Such issues will be identified by the
membership but might include: |
- Health Care
- National Energy Policy
(including drilling in ANWR)
- Anti-labor Ballot

- Anti-environment Ballot

- Pro-labor,
pro-environment ballot measures and candidates
