Resolution Instructions and 2014 Example

Union members bring resolutions to the International Conventions to raise awareness about issues important to them and their locals. A resolution may ask AFSCME International to take an action (e.g. form a committee, conduct a study, dedicate resources), they may ask AFSCME to make a public statement about a policy issue (e.g. opposing social security privatization, supporting a minimum wage increase), or they may be public statements about a significant social issue (e.g. marriage equality).
In 3336, any member or group of members may meet and draft a resolution and bring it to the local ad-hoc Resolutions Committee. Jim Orr and Karen Williams co-chair our local's resolutions commitee. Committee members are Bill Brown and Eric Feeley. The resolutions committee will review the draft resolution and then make a recommendation to the membership to pass or not pass the resolution. The Committee may also suggest amendments. If the membership passes a resolution by majority vote with a quorum present, the resolution will be forwarded to the International Convention in Las Vegas, held July 18 - 22, 2016.
A template for a resolution is attached below and an example of a resolution that our local brought two years ago.
